Profile
We work in the Kerikeri Basin on the opposite side of the river from the Stone Store and the Mission House. The beautiful Kerikeri River Scenic Reserve has secondary lowland podocarp-broadleaf forest of totara, kohekohe, kowhai, lacebark, puriri, taraire, tawa etc., invaded by Taiwan cherry, monkey apple, loquat and jasmine. Tradescantia, African club moss and kahili ginger are the main forest floor weeds.
The adjacent Kerikeri Basin Recreational Reserve is a buffer zone for the scenic reserve and has several Cestrum species, moth plant, blackberry, banana passion-fruit, tobacco weed, tree privet, Chinese privet and Japanese honeysuckle, in addition to the above. Kerikeri was probably the original weed capital of New Zealand and most of Northland’s major weeds are here in the wider basin area!
